Maldives: Reproductive Health Follow-up Survey, 2004
Maldives: Reproductive Health Follow-up Survey, 2004

As a follow-up survey, this aimed to measure changes in areas highlighted in the 1999 baseline

survey. It also provided baseline data for the reproductive health sub-programme under the UNFPA Third Country Programme. Therefore, it also covered new areas such as adolescent sexual and reproductive health. It was again undertaken collaboratively, with CIETinternational providing technical support and the Ministry of Health undertaking data collection and data entry as well as participating in design and analysis. A stakeholder group made design inputs and later discussed the findings and suggested further analysis towards final reporting. The survey was funded by UNFPA.

The follow up survey revealed improvement in a number of aspects of reproductive health, including knowledge and practice, with a modest increase in the use of modern contraceptive methods and a high rate of antenatal care and skilled birth attendance. The survey of youth revealed a number of areas that need to be addressed by the ongoing reproductive health programme.

The report of this follow-up survey is available from the Library.
