Local Health Systems
CIET has supported local health infrastructure development since its earliest work in Central America in the 1980s. In Mexico the Microregional Planning project helped build a grassroots health infrastructure in some of the poorest and most remote areas of the State of Guerrero.
In Bangladesh from 1998 to 2003 CIET did a district-by-district evaluation of the nationwide Health and Population Sector Programme and evaluated a related pilot hospital improvement initiative.
In Canada’s Atlantic provinces local public health infrastructure was the subject of the LoPHID project in 1998-2000.
Between 2008 and 2014 CIET is helping to develop new health information and planning systems for two states in Nigeria, Bauchi and Cross River.
Local health systems are included for evaluation in most service delivery surveys and many social audits.
