CONCERTING IN NAMIBIA

Visit the Concerting page for a general description of the Concerting intervention.

In Namibia 13 sites have received the Concerting intervention: 7 are urban and 6 are rural. We began to implement the Concerting intervention during 2009. A central team of trained coordinators facilitated concerting activities in each community.

Meeting with a service provider in Namibia

Councillors provided the CIET coordinators with lists of service providers in each community. The coordinators met individual service providers to share and discuss with them evidence about choice disability and how they as a service provider could better reach such people in their community. It proved difficult in the Namibian context to set up groups of service providers to work in concert, but in some communities the coordinators shared evidence and discussed choice disability with existing groupings of service providers. In some cases, two or three service providers developed ways of working together.
