ABOUT SAFE BIRTH

Safe Birth in Cultural Safety is a study aimed at improving maternal and newborn health in indigenous communities in a way that respects and strengthens local cultures and traditional midwifery. In the process, we build local capacities for multidisciplinary, intercultural, and multi-centred health research.

With our help, traditional midwives, community health promoters, and women and their families are taking the lead in a research initiative to support traditional birth culture through rigorous scientific validation. We hope to demonstrate that this way of doing things is safe for the mothers, their babies, and their culture, and can be of use in communities across Latin America.
